Effects of resistance training performed to repetition failure or non-failure on muscular strength and hypertrophy: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Findings

Training to failure does not produce superior strength or hypertrophy outcomes compared to non-failure training when volume is equated. Some evidence suggests always training to failure may be detrimental for strength — proximity to failure matters more than complete failure itself.
