Maximizing Muscle Hypertrophy: A Systematic Review of Advanced Resistance Training Techniques and Methods

Advanced RT techniques (drop sets, supersets, cluster sets, blood flow restriction, pre-exhaustion, accentuated eccentric loading) vs traditional RT

Findings

Some advanced techniques (blood flow restriction, drop sets) can produce comparable hypertrophy to traditional training with lower loads or less time. Supersets improve time efficiency without compromising volume, cluster sets allow heavier loads with maintained volume, and pre-exhaustion does not enhance hypertrophy. Overall, advanced methods are situational tools, not universally superior.
